Think the mood for my whole Sunday was determined by my choice of music to breakfast to. Not a new one mind. This one’s been around a while and whilst it’s only a few years old, it’s already a classic in my book.
Jack Savoretti, for those who don’t know him, is part Italian, part English, has bounced around Europe a fair bit and actually spent some of his youth in Southern Switzerland. (Come to think of it; even if you do know him…all of those things still apply ;o)
Jack’s album ‘Between the Minds‘ is perfect for a chilled, sunny day like we had today (at least in my neck of the woods). If you’re into folky, ballady, laid-backy, acousticy type music…such as: James Taylor, Jack Johnson or even Paul Simon and Bob Dylan at times; you might wanna take Mr. Savoretti’s disc for a spin. (Just try not to burst out singin’ if you’re mp3ing it on ya morning commute).
Actually, I should take this opportunity to thank my favorite little sister Helen (don’t tell our Thérèse, Nell) for introducing me to this particular artist. When she first pointed me in Jack’s direction, she told me that the track Dr Frankenstein reminded her of me? (Can’t help feeling there’s an insult buried in there somewhere. Unless of course the good doctor was a tad more handsome & friendly than the monster he created ;o)
That track turned out to be one of my faves; as did Black Rain, which is a tad more up tempo and Once upon a street, which is more focused on man & guitar (without accompaniment). But they’re all pretty good actually. Very poetic.
Any road up; all-in-all a pretty good album and as I said, it kinda springs to mind when I’m in a laid back mood. I kept meaning to check for other albums by this guy, but never really got around to it. (Guess I’ll shift the task to the top of my to-do list again). Most I’ve done, so far, is search for on-line guitar tabs and videos on you tube. Saw a few mentions of One Tree Hill on you tube, so I guess some of his tracks have featured there. Most tracks I found were live clips, where the sound quality kinda sucked, but here’s what I assume is the official music video for the aforementioned track; Dr. Frankenstein. Enjoy ya day. Here’s hoping you get your share of sunshine and chilled times…
